Dear NATRUE clients,
NATRUE is growing and is very successful in the market. As a NATRUE brand user, you also receive the NATRUE newsletter and you will have noticed that NATRUE has clearly positioned itself with regard to sustainability and environmental compatibility, based on reliable criteria.
We have put together some important information for you in our bio.inspecta newsletter. | | Deadlines for NATRUE Raw Material Approval and NATRUE Certification of cosmetic products | | Some time ago, NATRUE introduced the rule that NATRUE cosmetic products may only contain NATRUE approved / certified raw materials or certified organic raw materials. At the moment, the transition period is in progress and we would like to remind you of the deadlines: | | cosmetic products to be newly certified may only contain NATRUE approved or NATRUE certified raw materials. For certified organic raw materials pursuant to a standard as part of the IFOAM family of standards (see link below), please simply submit the current organic certificate to us.
Please contact your raw material suppliers and make them aware of this deadline. We offer NATRUE Raw Material Approval to raw material suppliers and will be happy to provide further information.
| | all raw materials must also be either NATRUE approved or NATRUE certified for the re-certification of cosmetic products. The certification of a raw material is required if the raw material contains an organic component and the raw material or component is not certified organic pursuant to a standard as part of the IFOAM family of standards (see above or in the section «Useful links»). | | As a manufacturer of cosmetics, you may use raw materials from the NATRUE database without the need for raw material approval by us. This means that product certification can be realised faster and more cost-effectively. | | To check whether an organic certification scheme is part of the IFOAM family of standards, we recommend this homepage: | | A non-GMO declaration is required for the approval and certification of each raw material. This must contain a passage declaring that the corresponding raw material is neither produced with the aid of nor from GMOs (not from nor by). So, for example, alcohol produced from non-GM potatoes with GM yeast is not compliant. A cetyl stearate produced from GM soya is also non-compliant. The easiest way is to use the NATRUE template. | | NATRUE raw material approval also for 100% nature-identical raw materials | | Raw materials for NATRUE cosmetic products that are fully nature-identical, for example pigments or silica, can be NATRUE approved on a voluntary basis. However, all other categories of raw materials (natural, derived natural) must be NATRUE approved (see above for deadlines). | | Suppliers of raw materials for NATRUE cosmetic products | | are advised to start the process of obtaining NATRUE approval (NATRUE Raw Material Approval) or NATRUE certification now. We will be happy to provide information. NATRUE approved or NATRUE certified raw materials are listed in the NATRUE database (see above in the section «Useful links») and are thus publicly visible. You can have NATRUE cosmetic raw materials approved or certified as a manufacturer or trader.
| | Automatic deactivation 3 months after expiry of certification / approval | | The certification / approval of NATRUE products / raw materials must be renewed every 2 years. In some cases this will require an audit. We will contact you in good time prior to the certificates’ expiry to arrange an audit date for re-certification. As a new measure, all products will now be deactivated on the NATRUE homepage 3 months after the expiry of the certification / approval.
| | INCI list for NATRUE cosmetic products | | When checking the NATRUE cosmetic products’ declarations, we must now check for conformity of the INCI declaration with the CosIng database. | | Hexane extraction in sunflower and rapeseed oil production | | The NATRUE criteria prescribe that natural substances can only be extracted by means of non-natural or synthetic solvents if no other technological option is available. Sunflower or rapeseed oil that has been extracted by means of hexane is therefore not permitted. However, the availability of sunflower and rapeseed oil has become restricted due to the war in Ukraine. In response to this situation, the Scientific Committee of NATRUE has adopted an exceptional approval: From 21 April 2022 onwards, and for a period of one year, hexane-extracted sunflower and rapeseed can be used in NATRUE products. Products can be certified and raw materials can be approved for 12 months. The period of validity of the NATRUE certificate continues to be 24 months. Please also take note of the NATRUE mailing of 9 May 2022.
| | Excerpt from the NATRUE mailing: | | Biofach/Vivaness, the world's leading trade fair for the organic and natural cosmetics market, will this year take place in Nuremberg (Germany) on 26-29 July (instead of February as usual) (https://www.vivaness.de/).
