ICROA Conditional Endorsement of Carbon Standards International | | Good day
We are proud to announce that ICROA has conditionally endorsed Carbon Standards International (CSI). This conditional endorsement applies only to carbon sinks from projects with a Project Design Document (PDD) in the Global C-Sink Registry. | | Carbon sinks that do not yet have complete public documentation are not ICROA endorsed and contained within a separate register, the Global C-Sink Transition Registry. | | We aim to merge the two separate registers at the end of the transition period for EBC C-Sink in March 2025. All C-sinks will then have the public documentation. The standards and C-sinks in the transition phase are equally stringent, and their quality is ensured by third-party inspections from CERES. However, due to the lack of public documentation, the C-sinks do not yet meet all ICROA criteria and are published in a separate registry. The merge will only be completed following review by ICROA to ensure compliance. | | ICROA is a leading industry Accreditation Programme aiming to enhance integrity in the voluntary carbon market in support of the Paris Agreement Goals. Based on the ICROA Code of Best Practice, the Accreditation Programme certifies best practice in GHG emissions reduction and offsetting through the use of high-quality carbon credits. The Programme is open to all organisations that offer carbon credits as well as emissions reduction and offsetting service. ICROA is a non-profit initiative housed within IETA. | | ICROA Conditional Endorsement of Carbon Standards International | | The Endorsement by ICROA is a widely recognized quality mark, assuring buyers of C-sink certificates (CO2 certificates) that these credits meet the foundational principles of the voluntary market and are permanent, real, unique, measurable, and additional.
The Conditional Endorsement by ICROA opens up new distribution channels and increases demand for our customers, as it strengthens buyer confidence in Carbon Standard Internationals C-Sink certificates. It attests to their quality and security through an external authority. Many companies follow the ICROA Code of Best Practice when procuring Carbon removal certificates. For Carbon Standards International, the Conditional Endorsement by ICROA is a significant milestone in scaling carbon removal projects and maximizing climate impact. | | Ueli Steiner, CEO of Carbon Standards International, comments: | | "We are very pleased with the Conditional Endorsement by ICROA, which marks a significant milestone in the development of our company. This conditional endorsement not only affirms the integrity of our standards, but also provides businesses with the confidence they need to choose high-quality C-Sink certificates from Carbon Standards International. This brings us one step closer to our goal of rapidly scaling carbon sinks through innovative projects." | | We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our customers who helped us achieve this milestone by promptly submitting their PDDs. Your contribution and swift action were crucial in securing this conditional endorsement, and we are grateful for your continued support.
For those customers who were more hesitant, there is now a clear reason to implement the new project documentation: the C-sinks will then have the added selling point of the Endorsement by ICROA.
