Batch runtimes through transition period from EBC C-Sink to Global Biochar C-Sink

With the transition from the EBC C-Sink Standard to the Global Biochar C-Sink Standard, there are important things for you to take note.

The Global Biochar C-Sink will become the valid standard as of March 1, 2025, replacing the EBC C-Sink at that date. From this point onwards, all existing and new C-sinks must have a validated Project Design Document (PDD) – thereby also meeting the ICROA requirements.

We have pointed out other key changes in the following easy-to-view presentation for you on the website.

Process of the transition:

All the existing EBC C-Sink customers shall execute the following during the transition:

1. Before 28 February 2025: Submission of a "Project Design Document (PDD)".

If you have not already done so, please complete the PDD as soon as possible so it can be validated prior to 1 March. Remember – validation takes time. If you are having problems with the completion of the PDD, please refer to the recording of the following webinar:

2. Transfer active production batches to the Biochar Tool:

After our service team has contacted you, you need to add the additional values required for the Global Biochar C-Sink Potential to the Biochar Tool.

We will be handling the following necessary steps in the transition for you directly:

1. Your currently active production batches will be closed by us as of February 28, 2025.
2. Successive batches in the Biochar Tool will be created by default, using the same analysis for the rest of the duration.
3. We will notify you when this follow-up batch has been prepared to fill in any remaining values.
4. When all values are fully filled, a new C-Sink Potential Certificate shall be issued without charge according to the Global Biochar C-Sink Standard.

What if the described process is not adhered to?

If there is no validated Project Design Document (PDD) available as of March 1, 2025, no sinks can be issued for the time being. EBC C-sink potential certificates issued before March 1, 2025, remain valid and can be used for the calculation of C-sinks in accordance with the Global Biochar C-Sink Standard as soon as the project documentation is available.
