Updated Process for Endorsement, Validation and Verification of the “Global Artisan C-Sink” Standard

Good day

We would like to inform you of recent updates in the Endorsement, Validation, and Verification process under the Global Artisan C-Sink framework. These improvements aim to streamline the project cycle, clarify responsibilities, and accelerate decision-making.

What Has Changed?

1. New Process Flow After Endorsement Call

Following the endorsement call, a new client will now directly contact Carbon Standards International (CSI) for the Feedstock, Methane Emission, and Technology Evaluation. This is a required step to receive a Methane Avoidance Approval and Endorsement.

2. Endorsement Requirement

To obtain the endorsement, C-Sink Managers are required to submit the following documents to CSI:

• An approved methane emissions avoidance or compensation plan
• A sample contract with the Artisan Biochar Producer (Annex 7.2 of the PDD)
• A Training Protocol (Annex 7.3 of the PDD)
• A minimum of 5 training videos (Artisan Pro or C-Sink Farmer Networks)

3. First Draft of the PDD Goes to VVB

After obtaining Endorsement, Artisan C-Sink Manager will submit the first version of the Project Design Document (PDD) directly to the Validation and Verification Body (VVB).

4. Public Consultation Initiated by VVB

VVB will then be responsible for contacting CSI to initiate the public consultation phase. This ensures objectivity and alignment in the validation process.

We have also updated our explanation document outlining the journey to become an Artisan C-Sink Manager, including the new flowchart.

Explanation Document

These changes will take effect starting July 1, 2025. Artisan C-Sink Managers initiating the endorsement process on or after this date must follow the revised procedure. Artisan C-Sink Managers who have received an Acceptance Letter for Methane Emission, Technology, and Endorsement prior to July 1, 2025, should contact our service team until June 30th to finalize their Endorsement.
