New GOTS Conditions for Use of Signs

At the end of January, GOTS published a new version of the document “Conditions for the Use of Signs” introducing updated requirements regarding the use of GOTS logos.
The new GOTS “Conditions for the Use of Signs 4.0” policy will be effective from 01 August 2026.

The main changes relate to the license number below the logo.
The current license number will be replaced by the Certification Number, a unique identifier assigned to certified companies through the Global Trace-Base (GTB) system when the first Scope Certificate is issued.
You can already find the Certification Number on your GOTS Scope Certificate as the GOTS license number. The certificate will be updated in the future so that the name “GOTS license number” is changed to “Certification Number.”

In addition, other changes include:

• The label grade, Certification Body, and Certification Number must be printed in Frutiger Next Bold and in a uniform color.
• On online shops and product pages, references to GOTS must always include the GOTS logo, not just a textual description.

All new logos must be approved by CERES using the updated Labelling Release for GOTS goods.
GOTS has confirmed that already printed hangtags and care labels with the old logo may continue to be used; relabeling is not required until existing stocks are exhausted.
