Random Reflectance Pilot

Dear ,

Carbon Standards International continues to focus on innovation. Together with the Ithaka Institute and other partners, we are implementing a project in which the persistence of biochar is assessed using new scientific methods. The results are promising, as the new highest persistence class has a geological persistent carbon (GPC) content of 90%.

Introducing Principles of the Global C-Sink Standards

The Principles of the Global C-Sink Standards serve as the overarching document for all Global C-Sink Standards, defining a transparent, science-based framework for high-quality, nature-based carbon removals. They ensure that every verified C-Sink represents a real, measurable, and durable contribution to climate mitigation.

The document sets out the core principles and methodological foundations applicable across all standards, including the treatment of time-dependent carbon storage, uncertainties, and potential leakage. It also outlines the project cycle and explains how the Global C-Sink Registry ensure traceability, integrity, and trust across the carbon removal ecosystem.

Insights from Our CEO: Interview with Quantum Commodity Intelligence

Our CEO, Ueli Steiner, was recently interviewed by Quantum Commodity Intelligence, where he shared insights on the outlook for carbon markets in 2026, the development of reliable climate services, and the future role of carbon cycles, agriculture, and high-integrity standards. Article from Ueli Steiner: Carbon footprint as a mark of quality for agricultural products

As climate transparency becomes a key quality factor in agriculture, our CEO Ueli Steiner shares his personal perspective on why understanding the carbon footprint of farms and products matters more than ever. Drawing on his background as an organic farmer and his early experience running a cattle farm in Switzerland, he explains how climate accounting can strengthen both resilience and trust across the agricultural value chain. Global C-Sink Standards: Endorsements and Progress Toward International Recognition

Carbon Standard International is the owner of the Global C-Sink standards and complies with the governance principles established under the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA). See

Additionally we have applied for the recognition of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM). The assessment determines its alignment with the CORSIA-Standard and the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs). It provides details on governance and criterias including sustainable development provisions, transparency and a robust third party validation and verification.

We await the implementation of the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) guidelines in the EU, for which we would also like to be recognised. CRCF is a voluntary framework in the EU for certifying carbon removals, carbon farming and carbon storage, aiming to enhance climate neutrality efforts by 2050.

„Our goal is to offer our customers the best possible standards and operational processes. Therefore we must ensure that our standards are reliable and have a third party validation, that companies can develop long-term business models based on them,” says Ueli Steiner, CEO of Carbon Standards International.
