As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and open communication, we will be introducing a Newsletter dedicated specifically to C-Sink Managers working with the Global Artisan C-Sink Standard.
While the CSI Newsletter covers broader company developments, this Global Artisan C-Sink Update will focus exclusively on matters relevant to the Artisan C-Sink Standard. This includes clarifications, rule updates, newly published documents, webinar announcements, and, in the future, selected success stories from our network.

Labor Right and Working Conditions | | | What is this about? This document ensures that all activity proponents uphold fair, safe, and equitable working environments in accordance with applicable labor laws and human rights principles.
Who is affected? All endorsed C-Sink Managers.
Action required: Please prepare this document for your next on-site audit.
Where to find it: Artisan webpage → Endorsement, Validation, and Verification Process → Project Design Document. | | | b. Calibration of Measurement Equipment | | | What is this about? This document aims to clarify the requirements for calibration for all C-Sink Standards.
Who is affected? All endorsed C-Sink Managers.
Action required: Calibration of measurement equipment should be added to the Monitoring plan. Including the planned calibration frequency based on manufacturer’s specification, appropriate industry consensus standard or in accordance with the specifications of the local/national standards. The calibration should be conducted and documented according to the Monitoring Plan.

| | | What is this about? Defines requirements for engaging and managing Implementation Partners (subsidiaries and subcontractors) under a Global Artisan C-Sink project.
Who is affected? C-Sink Managers with Implementation Partner (subsidiaries and subcontractors).
Action required: Prepare “Section 4 – Required Documentation for Engaging with an Implementation Partner “ for each Implementation Partner. This documentation will be reviewed during the next on-site audit.
Where to find it: Artisan webpage → Standard → Additional clarification and guidance. | | | d. Increasing Production Allowance for Artisan Pro | | | What is this about? Clarifies requirements for Artisan Pros seeking to increase annual production above 1,500 m³, up to a maximum of 4,500 m³ of biochar, per calendar year.
Who is affected? Only applicable to C-Sink Managers planning higher production volumes for Artisan Pro.
Action required: Please review Section 1.2 and submit required documentation.
Where to find it: Artisan webpage → Standard → Additional clarification and guidance. | | | e. Validation and re-validation of PDD of Global C-Sink Standard | | | Description: Providing clarification regarding the need for re-validation of PDD.
Who is affected? C-Sink Managers that are planning to make changes to their validated PDD.
Action required: Review the document section 2.1 and 2.2 and prepare the necessary documents.

Rule update for Biochar in Concrete Construction Materials | | | Description: Provides guidance and additional requirements for applying Global Artisan biochar in concrete construction materials. Matrix positive list for Biochar C-Sink document has been updated accordingly to include this matrix in Artisan.
Who is affected? C-Sink Managers that are planning to apply biochar to concrete construction materials.
Action required: Please review the document and submit the required documentation to CSI. In addition, the PDD will need to be adapted and re-validated. Further information will be provided in the coming weeks.

| | | g. Ex-ante Estimation Excel Calculator | | | Description: Supports C-Sink Managers in preparing ex-ante emission reduction estimations within the PDD.
Who is affected? C-Sink Managers preparing a new PDD.
Action required: Use this calculator when developing new project documentation. Use one table per feedstock.
Where to find it: Artisan webpage → Endorsement, Validation, and Verification Process → Project Design Document. | | | Project Design Document Update | | | As part of Carbon Standards International’s compliance with the evolving Voluntary Carbon Market requirements, we are updating our Project Design Document (PDD) accordingly. Please find below a description of the changes and who are affected.
Endorsed C-Sink Managers with a validated PDD are requested to review the “Action Required” column in Table 1 for further instructions.
Endorsed C-Sink Managers without a validated PDD, or those planning to submit a new PDD for a different project, are required to use the updated PDD template. | | | Should you have any questions regarding these updates, feel free to send us message at | | | As you may already know, Dominic will be leaving the company at the end of March (26/03/2026). Since joining in 2023, Dominic has played a truly instrumental role in shaping the Global Artisan C-Sink Standard and in advancing our work in biochar as CTO and PM of Global Artisan C-Sink. His vision, technical depth, openness, critical thinking and unwavering commitment to integrity have left a lasting mark on the development of the standard and on the broader Artisan community.
