Carbon Standards International now listed with US accreditation body ANAB

Carbon Standards has added a further layer of independent recognition to its rigorous standards with its recent listing by ANAB, the US-based National Accreditation Board.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with ANAB in June following their recent accreditation of CERES-CERT, Carbon Standards’ endorsed Validation and Verification Body. Their evaluation of Carbon Standards’ programme now appears on ANAB’s Greenhouse Gas Validation and Verification Directory.

The ANAB relationship strengthens the broader credentialing process underway this year. Alongside the ICVCM and CORSIA accreditation work in progress, it adds to a recognition portfolio that's building out steadily across major markets.

This growing portfolio gives buyers, regulators, and partners more ways to independently confirm what Carbon Standards has already built – a standards record that holds up under scrutiny.

Major Biochar Pilot Project with 32 Million Tons of Potential CDR per Annum Announced

Indonesia-based TSE Group, Carbon Standards International, and the International Biochar Initiative have announced a pilot to convert industrial-scale palm biomass waste into biochar, using pyrolysis kilns purpose-built for tropical feedstock. The project, scheduled to start early next year, aims to generate up to 32 times the amount of carbon removal delivered globally in 2025.

Announced during Biochar Summit 2026 in Vienna, the project will pursue certification under Carbon Standards’ industrial biochar standards, with carbon removal accounting and ongoing verification built in from the start.

Ueli Steiner, CEO of Carbon Standards, notes, “Tropical biomass streams like the ones in this project are exactly the kind of feedstock where the market needs credible, ground-tested certification pathways.”

According to TSE Senior Advisor Kwangyul Peck, “This new approach can yield approximately 32 million tons of CDR per year. To put that in context, CDR.fyi estimates that roughly 1 million tons of CDR were delivered globally in total last year."

Three Major Events on Three Continents: Carbon Standards takes the stage

Carbon Standards had headline roles at three major industry events spanning Europe, Asia, and Africa in June, demonstrating the global reach of the biochar CDR conversation.

In Vienna, Carbon Standards joined Biochar Summit 2026 as Diamond Sponsor, with Ueli Steiner providing opening remarks for the summit and joining a plenary session on the future of the biochar industry. Carbon Standards also co-hosted a packed reception with TSE Group following announcement about an upcoming pilot project certifying biochar carbon removal from palm biomass residue at industrial scale.

In Bangkok, Luki Fathia took the stage as a keynote speaker at Climate Futures APAC Summit to present a carbon removal case study showcasing how the biochar industry is growing across Asia.

And in Johannesburg, Bio360 Africa – the inaugural event for Bio360 on the continent – featured Anna Schniepper on a panel examining what rigorous carbon removal certification requires in practice: clear pathways with regulatory frameworks and governmental engagement to support implementation.
