IMPORTANT: Stock / Production quantities in the Biochar Tool – What needs to be done?

Dear Biochar Tool User,

On February 18, 2026, we informed you that Stock / Production quantities must be recorded in the Biochar Tool.

In light of this, we would like to provide detailed instructions today on the steps that need to be taken.

1. The amount of biochar produced (excluding physical inventory) must be documented as Stock / Production quantity in the Biochar Tool.

2. The amount must be specified in tons of dry matter.

3. The production quantity must be recorded on a quarterly basis or over a shorter period.

4. The first entry for a new batch must always cover the period from the batch start date to the end of the respective calendar quarter.
Example: June 6, 2025 – June 30, 2025.

5. The final entry for a batch must always cover the period from the start of the respective calendar quarter to the end of the batch duration.
Example: April 1, 2026 to June 5, 2026

6. For biochar produced during a maintenance period or that does not meet the EBC/WBC criteria, the box must be checked: “Stock was produced during production unit maintenance period or outside of batch criteria”

7. The sum of the individual posting quantities for a batch must match the quantity in the “Batch Closure Information.”
Example:

Posted Stock / Production quantities

Information on batch closure
Total produced biochar of the batch = 470 t (TM)
Total produced maintenance biochar of the batch = 10 t (TM)

8. For batches that are currently active or paused, Stock / Production quantities must be entered (retrospectively).
9. With immediate effect, an entry for the previous quarter must be made by the 15th of the following month at the latest.

Why are these entries important?

- The label fees for biochar are calculated based on the registered quantities.
- The emissions portfolio is created based on the Stock / Production quantities. The emissions listed therein must be offset prior to C-Sink registration. For further information, see
